Well, ok it’s not really been a hundred years – just 11 years as Scribe E following 4 years as Assistant. But perhaps it felt like 100 years, or perhaps it passed in the twinkling of an eye!

At Beaureper Chapter’s Installation meeting on Thursday 2nd November 2017  EComp David Joyce was installed as Z, EComp Jason Lark as H and EComp Sam Moss as J. But the surprise of the night (at least to EComp Roger Haylett) was the presentation to him of a gift from the Most Excellent Grand Superintendant to mark Roger’s retirement earlier this year as Provincial Grand Scribe E. His hard work and dedication to the office was commented on by the Grand Superintendant – as was that of his assistant Val – or was Roger the assistant and Val the power behind the throne? Only you know the truth, dear reader! And what could be more fitting than an engraved decanter and three smashed tumblers? We’ll replace the tumblers, honestly Roger.

It was a great night followed by a great festive board. Poor old Jim Boulton won the raffle prize of Chris Parnham’s epic book on DeLorean cars – sorry Chris, my little joke (!) – the book is a tour-de-force and is available from Chris for all DeLorean enthusiasts.

And I can report that Val is progressing nicely following her recent spinal surgery.
