The Provincial team visited Harrington Chapter on Thursday 10th December to witness the exaltation of Bro. John Gavin Fowkes, and a wonderful ceremony it was. Harrington Chapter spread the work amongst the Principals and Sojourners and involve the senior members too. They were congratulated on the very high standard of work which they all produced and the sense of enjoyment which pervaded the evening.
The visit of the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent to his own Chapter was also marked by the presentation of his portrait to him by the Deputy Grand Superintendent in his usual unassuming and sincere style. In responding, E.Comp Cunnington thanked all who had made this possible, especially E.Comp Phil Ablott whose idea it had been after realizing that there had only been one previous MEGS to have his portrait exhibited, E.Comp Stanley Lester Speight, and deciding it was time for another! The Grand Superintendent remarked that the honour belonged to the Royal Arch in Derbyshire as a whole and not really to him personally, although he was somewhat overwhelmed by the gesture.
A most convivial festive board followed, as can be discerned from the photographs taken by our very own Lord Snowden (or should that be David Bailey?), E. Comp. George Frost.
